As a successful working woman who paints as a hobby and for relaxation, Karen's artistic skill and scope is astounding.

Painting primarily with watercolours and oil paints, Karen's fundamentals are in Chinese brush painting, giving her a firm grasp of water-based mediums. Her keen exploration of styles lends her artwork a graceful fusion of East and West that brings her preferred theme of nature to its brilliant best.

It was during painting holidays and trips that Karen was motivated to paint landscapes and flowers. Karen's interpretation of nature range from surreal to impressionistic. Wanting to move away from convention, she creates artwork that allows the viewer room to imagine and interpret rather than to show something exactly as it is. And so she paints her Sunflowers, an obvious reference to the Van Gogh masterpiece, with all kinds of eyes at the centre of each bloom. So masterful is she at the medium that her watercolour painting manages to capture a stained-glass effect.

Impressionist figureheads such as Monet and Van Gogh, and even the Surrealists Salvador Dali and Chagall, are Karen's primary artistic influence. Karen's paintings are spontaneous and she only does preparatory sketches on large canvases. Karen often finds inspiration in current news and happenings which she reflects conceptually in her paintings. Karen plans to move into a bigger abode to accommodate her ever-growing artistic ambitions and her similarly increasing collection of artworks. Ultimately, she aspires to create art that makes a lasting impression on the viewer and to achieve that, she hopes to be able to find more time to indulge in her painting passion.
