The gracefulness and deft movement within the confident brushstrokes in Joanne's artworks can seem even to be shutter-speed captures of dancers or elegant swirls of colour in water. Indeed, Joanne's paintings seem to be capturing a moment as it flies by in all its Technicolor glory.
Her abstract paintings can range from the linear calmness of an ocean in shades of blue and emerald to the raging storms captured in bursts of colour. Generally, her paintings carry an overtone of pleasantness in its flowing beauty and serve as visual commentaries of life. Each defining brushstroke therefore carries a weight in its purpose in the overall composition.
In Spiral of Life 19, warm colours are interspersed by cool strokes to create a sense of dynamism and movement, seemingly about to rip out of its canvas boundaries at any time. This series of paintings show an insight into her inner mindscape and reflect her life's journey. Although there is no concrete or discernible message in them other than the sensation and feeling they invoke, as most abstract work often does, it leaves much to the viewer's own imagination. As such, aesthetics play a key role in her concepts and it serves to offer the viewer a heightened consciousness.
As an artist, Joanne focuses on the Lyrical Abstraction movement. She finds inspiration in the works of masters such as Picasso and Van Gogh. Her goal is to inculcate artistic appreciation, awareness and expression in the younger generation by reaching out to them through her artworks.
