Grace Choong

Just as people have different facets of personality and various hobbies, so Grace paints several series at once to portray her artistic philosophies.

Travelling around the world to paint, Grace treats painting as a self-discovery process that provokes feelings that cannot be described in words. To her, painting is a way of challenging herself to explore deeper into her inner nature. She describes her artworks as positive and joyful that gives its viewers a message of hope. Her paintings are cross-cultural and she hopes to imbue in them knowledge and her own philosophy, finding inspiration in Descartes' "I think, therefore I am."

Grace considers boxes as paradigms of different times and feelings, and in Venice there are certainly many square elements framed within the larger rectangle of her canvas. In what seems to be a tableau of interspersing elements that represent the floating city, such as gondolas and Venitian architecture, Grace creates a visual tribute to the city.

Currently, she is working on a series about the baba nyonya heritage and favours the post-modernist movement. She eventually hopes to educate society about art appreciation and to reach out to more audiences to promote art as a way of upgrading the quality of life.
