Chiang Soa Ling

A nature lover with a green thumb and a heart for all species of blooms, Chiang's detailed and accurate illustrations of flowers bring out their floral splendour.

Previously an interior designer, Chiang's artistic tendencies moved to the outdoors, a progression that occurred due to his passion for plants, insects and especially of the variety of colours in flowers. Chiang's favourite is the orchid due to its resilience, which makes them unique to him.

In his painting title here, Chiang's precise usage of watercolours achieves an almost photo-realistic effect, while the transparency of the medium brings out the fragility of the orchid and the effervescence of its colour. The rows of blooms form a choir of lively singers, each unique in its shape and colour but harmonious in its composition. Chiang's botanic passion gives his paintings an almost scientific-illustration level of detail and attention.

Chiang uses live references and most of the plants and flowers he paints can conveniently, and by no coincidence, be found in his own backyard. No doubt as his own garden grows, so will his painting prowess.
