Amirudin's artistic arsenal is certainly well-stocked; recognised as a prolific portrait painter, fluent watercolourist and illustrator, he is also a contemporary artist to be reckoned with.

His self-exploratory pieces are surreal inner landscapes swirling with colours and mystery yet managing to project its unique message to the viewer. An example of this is his artwork Ideal Parenting, which title sheds meaning to the golden seahorse portrayed. The concept behind his personal works is that things aren't always what they seem at first sight, and truly one has to look deeper into the myriad of details in Amirudin's artworks to find the gold nuggets of its meaning. Amirudin seems fond of using sea creatures as metaphors.

To Amirudin, colour is therapy and he sources colours from within rather than without, in example the act of dreaming in colour. To him colour is an individual preference as distinct as the senses of sight and taste. Details and colour are certainly this artist's forte, clearly shown in his watercolour works of rural scenes in the perfect combination of intricacy and simplicity enhanced by sunlit colours and brilliant dapples. Even in his painting That Fish, it takes a second look to notice the smaller fishes hidden in the scales of the larger one, ala MC Escher.

A philosophical man, Amirudin describes a good painting as one that remains in the memory of its viewer. He prefers viewers to perceive his artworks as they like and to be engaged in the artwork by offering critiques or opinions. He describes the pinnacle of painting as to be the moment when the painter is united with the act of painting.
